What might my child’s day look like?
A typical school day begins at 8.45am.
During the morning, children take part in an extended Montessori work cycle. They work independently, with peers and in small teacher-led groups across literacy, mathematics, science, culture and other curriculum areas.
The longer work period gives children time to concentrate, practise and complete meaningful learning without constantly stopping for a new subject.
The remainder of the day may include:

Art and creativity
Group discussions
Research and project work
Physical activity
Practical tasks
Cultural and community learning
Reflection and care of the environment
School finishes at 2.45pm.
Montessori is not less academic. It is more personalised.
Students build strong skills in:
Reading
Spelling and grammar
Writing
Mathematics
Science
Geography
History
Art
Physical education and health
Children receive explicit instruction when it is needed. They are also given sufficient time to practise skills, investigate questions and build deeper understanding.
Learning is not limited by a child’s age when they are ready to progress, and support can be provided when a child needs additional time.

Full-time school
Children attend the Whitby school during the school week and
participate in the complete Montessori programme.
Hybrid school
Hybrid students combine face-to-face learning with supported learning
at home.
Families interested in hybrid enrolment should speak with the school
about the current attendance structure, expectations and costs.
