Our Montessori One day option uses the Montessori curriculum, a renowned world wide multi-sensory curriculum.
Montessori has:
- Hands-on Learning: Children use especially designed materials and tools to explore and understand concepts in a practical way.
- Independence: Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning, making choices and working at their own pace.
- Collaboration: Learning often happens in groups, promoting teamwork and social skills.
- Integrated Subjects: Topics are connected across subjects, helping children see the bigger picture and understand how things are related.
- Respect for Individuality: Each child’s unique interests and abilities are recognised, with personalised support to help them thrive.

Before enrolling a student it is mandatory for all prospective students to participate in a trial visit. This trial visit serves as an important step in determining the suitability of the school environment for the student and ensuring alignment with our educational philosophy. Throughout the trial visit, our staff will observe the student’s engagement, behaviour, and interaction with others. This observation will contribute to assessing how well the student adapts to our school culture and values, please contact us to arrange a free pre-enrolment visit.
Important information for students enrolled in schools:
To attend One Day School and therefore be absent from their mainstream school one day a week, parents will need to seek permission from their child’s school. Section 52 of the Education and Training Act 2020 allows New Zealand school students to have time away from school to attend alternative education with the permission from their school. Parents must seek the approval of their school and provide this approval to Porirua Montessori School. This may require an application to your school’s BOT. The principal will choose how to mark the child’s absence.
